‘Animal Embroidery’ – Art Hive with Molly Bertheaud: December 16 from 10:30 am to 1 pm
The works in this exhibition blend archaic forms of painting and tapestry with contemporary techniques to tell modern, personal mythologies. Carnivalesque imagery rendered on paper, and its textile translations in printed silk and knitwear, draws on science fiction, myth, ecology and feminine tropes to address themes of motherhood, the vulnerability of love and mortality, particularly as they relate to women’s health and biology.
Molly Bertheaud integrates craft techniques with modern technology to create contemporary mythologies. Her work explores themes of science-fiction, ecology, mortality, and femininity through biological symbolism and asks how we can pursue our limitless desires in a world of limited resources. She has a BFA from Emily Carr and is pursuing an MFA at Concordia.
