During this eight-week course you will develop and complete your own book made entirely with textiles - a stitch journal, a photo album, a family history, a text-based work, a child’s sensory book, etc. This is an opportunity to experiment with story-telling, colour, shape and pattern through needlework and book-making. We will begin by planning out the book, then adding to it every week and finally binding the book. You will learn embroidery, appliqué and quilting techniques as well as explore the fascinating world of book-making. You will be introduced to historical and contemporary artist practices.

This course is an introduction to tapestry as a form of visual art making. You will be introduced to tapestry weaving as well as the exciting practices of artists working with tapestry today. Students are encouraged to develop a personal project and will be guided through the building of a frame loom, setting up the loom (warping), weaving using various colour joining techniques such as hatching and slits, experimenting with colour mixing as well as how to complete and display the weaving.
