This course allows you to explore multiple possibilities of handling white or coloured paper by considering the creative potential of a textile approach to this material. We will study different papers and several techniques allowing us to modify their surfaces either by softening them, stiffening them or by texturing them to create volume. A repertoire of proposed techniques will serve as inspiration for the realization of a work of textile paper in 2D or 3D.

As part of the course, students will be invited to transform a found book using different drawing, collage and wash techniques. In order to create this hybrid object, between the book and the sketchbook, students will be guided through the process with classroom exercises, critiques of the work in progress and presentations on contemporary drawing practices. The objective of this course, which is both rigorous and fun, is to end the session with a completed artwork.
