In this workshop you will learn how to make recycled paper by blending paper scraps to create a pulp mixture, that, with the help of a mould and deckle, will form new fresh sheets of paper. We’ll discuss the various materials and techniques used in paper making as well as sizing methods, which will help with absorption, making them impervious to ink. After a few days, when the papers are dry, you may collect them from the VAC office.

This workshop offers a textile approach to paper, a powerful creative tool. Using the momigami technique, we’ll explore different ways of modifying the surface of papers. We’ll use different cellulose starches, including konnyaku, to strengthen papers while giving them texture and flexibility. A variety of Japanese papers will be offered for hands-on learning. This technique, which can be adapted to all types of paper, will enable participants to experiment with other papers of their choice: paper scraps or recycled papers of all kinds.
The knowledge acquired will enable participants to create a repertoire of textile paper samples to combine with other artistic techniques. Open to all levels.
