Opening the boundaries between drawing and painting, this course explores the creative possibilities and vast array of materials and techniques available to the mixed-media artist. Ink, watercolour pencils, charcoal, and pastels are used in a multi-layered, playful manner. Inspiration will be drawn from both past and contemporary artists. Some models included. In this course you will work with paint and ink on over twenty varieties of Japanese washi to create your own unique collage papers as material for mixed media pieces. Each class will focus on two to three different types of neutral, coloured and/or textured washi, both machine made and handmade. Along with drawing and painting, we’ll create some surprising effects using repeated pattern, tinting and texture. Open to all levels.

Transfer techniques open up a world of creative possibilities for contemporary artists, integrating an image (ie. digital photo, drawing, text) into any acrylic surface. This level one workshop covers the basics including immediate and direct transfers, polymer skins, grisaille and glazing techniques. No computer skills required; open to artists in all media.
