Dessin et écriture - Text-Based Drawing (Automne/Fall 2023)

This class is for anyone interested in language and drawing. Explore the intersection of the written word and visual art by working with both existing texts of your favorite prose, poems, lyrics etc, and original compositions, and translating them into drawings. Looking at artists ranging from Cy Twombly to Jenny Holzer, we will explore techniques and concepts that shift language to visual language. Mediums will include charcoal, graphite, ink, collage and more. Shorter drawing and creative writing exercises will develop over the course of the semester into more sustained personal projects. All levels welcome.
