Kathleen Vaughan exhibits textile maps, which use visual art and storytelling to explore connections between place and belonging, often with an environmental slant. Maps are a wonderful way to evoke place without using pictorial traditions: as abstractions, maps help bring to life some of the questions embedded in representation. At the same time, maps are cross-cultural, familiar, and easily understood.
