About The School
VAC had its origins in the 40s as an artist run collective. That sense of community and creative exchange remains at the heart of who we are. Today our School of Art registers almost 4000 students a year, age 4 to 94, from absolute beginner to professional artist returning to hone new skills. The VAC offers:
- a unique, comprehensive approach to arts education in an open, encouraging environment.
- a faculty of over 50 part time teachers – trained, experienced educators and active members of Montreal’s professional arts community.
- approximately 325 courses annually including most major disciplines in the visual arts.
- all levels from introductory to advanced , with equal emphasis on skill development, technical mastery and creative expression.
- courses, workshops and intensives in professional studios morning, afternoon, evening, weekdays and weekends all year long.
- Independent Studies Program for advanced students to facilitate an intensive period of work with guided mentorship.
- lectures, seminars, artists’ talks and gallery exhibitions that engage students in stimulating critical discourse and an understanding of contemporary art issues.
- located in charming Victoria Village, we are easily accessible by public transportation and close to a full service art supply store, restaurants and cafes.
